It’s November Already?

I can not believe November is already here.  The last two months have flown by for our family.  In October, exactly 100 days after we were hit by the bad storm that destroyed our bins, we were able to start filling one of the destroyed bins with corn.  That was such a relief for us!

Since then, my days have been filled with all the work that goes along with buying grain for the bin.  The paperwork is overwhelming at times!  We still have to tear down our other big bin but first we have to get the corn out of that bin.  Our goal is to have that bin emptied by December.  Then we can begin tearing down the bin so we can fix the damaged portion.  The entire bin will have to come down to fix the damage at the top.  It’s too bad there wasn’t another way to fix it correctly!  We are hoping for an easy winter so the weather will not delay us any further.

In the process of all of this, we updated our scale tickets for buying grain and I had to learn a new program for settling my grain purchases.   We are hoping this new program will help the farmers who we purchase corn from with their accounting records.  The program allows us to track purchases from each farm field or grain bin if the farmer wants.  That will allow us to run reports for the farmer that will keep detailed records of the corn we purchased per field or bin.  Not every farmer will want this information but some of the farmers are finding it very helpful.  We can even email copies of their scale tickets to them now.  Technology in agriculture is advancing so fast, it just amazes me!
