A few years back the reality TV Show America’s Heartland came to our farm to give millions of American’s a look inside our modern day family hog farm. It was a great experience for our family, especially for our kids.
Our kids had a great time learning how a TV show was produced and they loved telling their story to the TV crew. And the crew had a good time learning all the details that go into caring for the hogs on our family farm on a daily basis. One of the crew members even stated he expected our farm to smell and he was pleasantly surprised to learn that he smelled the hogs only when he was inside our barns.
Our family was honored to host America’s Heartland on our farm and we were in awe of the support our family farm received from all over the United States after our episode aired. America’s Heartland took our farm into the living rooms of millions of American’s so they could see how well we care for our livestock and how important our farm and animals are in our lives.
Now, I feel like it’s my turn to give back to America’s Heartland. It costs millions of dollars to produce this TV show and to send the crew out to farms and ranches all across the United States. For the past six years, the show has relied upon the generous support of sponsors to tell OUR STORY, the story of the American Farmer and Rancher. America’s Heartland is the only nationally-distributed program on U.S. agriculture, and it is seeking production funding for its seventh season. As a member of the grassroots led organization, Friends of America’s Heartland, I am working with four other farmers and ranchers from across the country to raise awareness and support for America’s Heartland.
