The snow and ice made our job of caring for our hogs and cattle more challenging but we survived! We are lucky to have our modern hog barns to help us protect our hogs from this rough winter. Our hogs were warm all through this storm and they always had access to fresh water and dry feed. It was a true blessing for our hogs to be safe and warm during the blizzard. We had sows who gave birth every day of the storm. If they had given birth outdoors the piglets wouldn’t have survived the below zero temperatures we have been experiencing.
I’m thankful for technology in farming because it allows us to protect our land and animals. My grandparents were not as fortunate to have this technology. I’m very lucky to be a young farmer today. Our goal is to pass our farm onto our kids who I pray will be the 6th generation of farmers in our family! I can’t wait to see how technology improves farming for my kids.
